On this day in 2022, General Elly Tumwine, a decorated soldier and one of the original 27 combatants of the NRA, was laid to rest in Kiruhura District. His burial was a solemn national event, honoring a key figure in Uganda's liberation struggle and subsequent political history.

🌍And Elsewhere in Africa 

On this same day, Algeria experienced the harrowing Rais massacre, where at least 98 villagers were killed by the Armed Islamic Group of Algeria (GIA). This tragic event remains a somber historical marker of a period of great violence in the country.

📌 The 'Battle of Champions,' the grand finale of the Stanbic National Schools Championship, is underway today. Eight innovative student teams from across Uganda are presenting their groundbreaking solutions for a chance to win a prize pool of over UGX 30 million. 

▶️ In a move to strengthen regional health security, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has officially launched the Preparedness for Pandemic Response (PREPARE) Project in Uganda, with support from the WHO. 

📌 President Museveni has been officially endorsed as the NRM flag bearer ahead of the 2026 Elections. This decision positions him as the party's candidate for the next political cycle.(See more)
