🤗 Welcome to yet another cool and hot Friday.

can we start with

📆Today in History ?

🌏 And elsewhere in Africa - Last Friday - We were wondering whether incumbent Malawian President  Lazarus Chakwera would survive.

Well, the results finally came.  He was defeated by former President Peter Mutharika who secured 56.8% of the vote.

In the news

📰  NUP leader - Mr. Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as  Bobi Wine, has been cleared by the Electoral Commission to run in the January 2026 presidential elections.

Eight candidates are expected to tussle out for the biggest job in the country.

📰 Elsewhere - The StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) 2025/2026 season officially kicks off today and will be introducing a dramatic new competition format.

Here are the key changes

The season is now structured in a three-round system, that will replace the  traditional format where clubs were playing each other -  'Home and Away'.

the three rounds are;

ℹ️ Round One: Where all 16 teams will play each other once (that will be 15 match days).

then

ℹ️Round Two: Where the table will be split into two groups of eight (the top 8 and the bottom 8), who then play a full home-and-away schedule within their respective groups.

and Finally

ℹ️ Round Three (Decisive): Where the top six from Group One  will compete for the championship title in a final one-leg group format, while the bottom six from Group Two will enter a relegation battle.

This new format is designed to increase competition and prize money.

Which are the opening day fixtures and who are the contenders?

Today, BUL FC  will host URA FC at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, while Kitara FC will take on KCCA FC at The Royals Park in Hoima. And Express FC will play UPDF FC under floodlights at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo.

The game involving defending champions Vipers SC and SC Villa has been postponed due to their continental engagements.

Vipers SC remain the team to beat, though SC Villa recently won the FUFA Super 8 and look fresh. Traditional giants like KCCA FC and consistent contenders like BUL FC are also expected to challenge for the title under the intensified new structure

I hope that gives you a clear picture of the new developments.

And that marks the end of the news...
