Submission Guidelines
Before You Write
- Pitch First: Send us a brief pitch (2-3 sentences) outlining your article idea to sanyu@sanyudaily.ug
- Check Relevance: Ensure your topic is timely and relevant to our Ugandan audience
- Verify Originality: We only accept original, unpublished content
- Consider Timing: Submit time-sensitive pieces at least 5 days before publication needed
Writing Requirements
- Word Count: Op-eds: 800-1200 words; Letters: 300-500 words; Analysis: 1000-1500 words
- Language: Clear, accessible English suitable for a general educated audience
- Structure: Strong opening, well-supported arguments, clear conclusion
- Evidence: Support claims with credible sources, data, and examples
- Voice: Write in your own voice; avoid corporate-speak or jargon
Content Standards
- Accuracy: All facts must be verifiable; include sources for claims
- Balance: Acknowledge counterarguments and different perspectives
- Civility: Respectful tone even when disagreeing with others
- No Hate Speech: Content promoting discrimination or violence will be rejected
- Legal Compliance: Ensure content complies with Ugandan media laws
How to Submit
Send Your Pitch
Email a brief pitch to sanyu@sanyudaily.ug including:
- Proposed headline
- 2-3 sentence summary
- Your credentials for writing on this topic
Wait for Approval
We'll respond within 3 business days with:
- Approval to proceed with your article
- Suggestions for modifications
- Polite decline with feedback
Write and Submit
Once approved, submit your complete article with:
- The article in Word document format
- Author bio and headshot
- List of sources/references
- Disclosure of any conflicts of interest
Editorial Review
Our editorial team will:
- Fact-check your claims
- Edit for clarity and style
- Send you the edited version for approval
- Schedule publication
Editorial Policy
Fact-Checking
All submissions undergo fact-checking. We may ask you to provide additional sources or clarification for any claims.
Editing
We reserve the right to edit submissions for length, clarity, and style. Major changes will be discussed with authors before publication.
Publication Rights
By submitting, you grant Sanyu Daily first publication rights and the right to republish in our archives. You retain ownership of your work.
No Payment
Sanyu Daily does not pay for contributed articles. Your compensation is the platform to reach Uganda's most engaged readers.
Promotion
We'll promote accepted articles through our newsletter, website, and social media channels. Authors are encouraged to share their published pieces.
What We Don't Accept
- Press Releases: Corporate announcements disguised as articles
- Promotional Content: Pieces primarily marketing a product, service, or organization
- Partisan Politics: Articles that read like campaign materials
- Personal Attacks: Content targeting individuals rather than addressing issues
- Conspiracy Theories: Unfounded speculation presented as fact
- Plagiarism: Previously published content or work copied from others
- Legal Issues: Content that could expose us to legal liability
- Poor Quality: Poorly written, researched, or argued pieces
