📆 Today in 🇺🇬 UG History.  

In 1961 : To prevent disputes and strikes, all hotels and safari lodges controlled by the Uganda Development Corporation signed an agreement with the Uganda Hotels and Domestic Workers Union in Kampala. 

This was the first of its kind in Uganda, covering hotels across the country before its independence in 1962

In 2010 – Sebastian Vettel - at 23 years - became the youngest person to win the World Championship  in Formula One

In the news

📰 Ugandan faded socialite, Bryan Kirumira (Bryan White), has been formally charged with human sacrifice, manslaughter, and other related offenses following the death of a 25-year-old woman, Carol Nalubwama, at his residence in October 2025.

White is accused of causing her death "for witchcraft purposes." His wife and other co-accused have been remanded until December 18, 2025, for the mention of the case.

📰  In Business news

The IMF has concluded an assessment of Uganda's ability to repay it's debts and loans.

Called the Post -Financing Assessment  or (PFA) - this exercise is a surveillance mechanism for countries with bulging debt but with no active IMF support program. 

The assessment confirmed Uganda's strong economic growth of 6.3% and low inflation, but highlighted our increased spending on interest payments which affects our domestic revenues.

The IMF Executive Board is expected to further discuss this assessment in January 2026.

📰 ⚽️ In Sports:  Afreximbank has given $36.4 million to SAMCO National Construction Company to complete the construction of the Akii-Bua Olympic Stadium in Lira, Uganda. 

 The money is to support the design and construction of the venue - which is among those going to be used in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)

⚽️ And 2moro - Uganda takes on Senegal in the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2025 in Qatar.  The winner advances to face either Burkina Faso or Germany.
