🌏 And Elsewhere

In 1990: East Germany & West Germany were formerly reunified to create one GERMANY.  Ending the divide that had lasted since the end of World War II

⁉️ Today's puzzle

I have cities, but no houses. I have mountains, but no trees. I have water, but no fish.   What am I?

Reply and let us know - but we shall also share our response on Monday.

In today's stories.

📰 Two Kenyan activists have reportedly been abducted by security forces for participating and showing solidarity with NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.

The two, named Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo - both members of the Free Kenya Movement - were allegedly seized at a Petrol station in Kireka - kampala and their whereabouts remain unknown.

Bobi Wine has strongly condemned the "mafia-style" abduction, demanding their immediate and unconditional release.

📰  Meanwhile, The UPDF 2nd Dvision and RDF 5th Division have held a meeting in Kabale district with the aim of strengthening cross -border security cooperation and addressing common challenges like; smuggling of illegal goods, trafficking of  humans and cattle rustling.

The meeting is part of the regular dialogue that was endorsed by both President M7 and Kagame - with the aim of enhancing peace, stability  and socio-economic transformation along our shared border.

📰 In Business.

This week - Uganda's largest trade show called 'The International Trade Fair ' (UGITF) kicked off yesterday at Lugogo - Kampala and will end on Saturday 12th October, 2025.

What is the UGITF ?

It is the country's premier annual industrial and business exhibition that takes place at Lugogo - kampala.  And is one of the largest trade showcases in East and Central Africa.

This event, following years of neglect and suspension due to security concerns, was first revived by the late chairman of the Uganda Manufacturers Association - Dr. James Mulwana -  in April 1988.

In 1989 and 1990 - it was succesfully held as part of Uganda's independence day celebrations. In 1993 - the show managed to get a permanent home at the UMA Show Grounds in Lugogo.  By 1994 - the show had gained significance influence - becoming 'International'.

The show is organised by UMA, headed by the Board Chairman Mr. Aga Sekalala Jr and Executive Director - Mr. Ezra Muhumuza who guide the fair's vision and execution.

Has it had any impact on Uganda?

Yes ofcourse. lets see them

📌 The show is both a big platform for 'Made in Uganda'  products and for the  'Buy Uganda - Build Uganda' initiative.

It attracts 1,500 local & international exhibitors from 30 countries and over 300,000 visitors annually - thus creating exposure for direct sales and business-to-business (b2b) linkages which have improved Uganda's exports and foreign earnings.

📌 The fair is big on promoting sustainable industrialisation by providing a platform to show new technologies & innovations in Agriculture & Industrial sectors.

This has enabled local manufacturers to join regional value chains and thus limit our dependence on imports.

📌 This show also acts as an investment and policy engagement platform -where global investors, industry leaders and government officials are able to meet and quickly resolve business issues while shaping our industrial policy.

UMA confirms that fair has helped build a culture of industrialization and has created millions of direct jobs.

That will be it folks.
