π€ Hellos
Welcome to today's Sanyu
As usual - we start with
π Today in UG πΊπ¬ history.
Not much is remembered today - but in neighbouring Tanzania - in 1871 - the famous explorer Henry Morton Stanley found his lost fellow explorer Dr. David Livingstone near Lake Tanganyika.
This encounter intensified Europe's interest in Africa because the explorers were finding lakes, rivers, forests, minerals, beautiful people and glowing gardens everywhere they reached.
π And elsewhere in Africa
In 1995: Nigerian writer, television producer, and environmental activist Ken Saro-Wiwa, and 8 other persons were executed by the military government.
Their activism showed how Oil companies were damaging the environment in the Niger Delta -which led to Nigeria's temporary suspension from the commonwealth.
π₯³ Today, we celebrate the birth of local heroes and everyday champions! Happy Birthday to everyone born on November 10th! May your year be filled with success and joy.
In the news
π° It looks like the Boda Boda Industry will not wait for the Oil in Hoima.
Because the rate at which electric-bikes are being adopted is alarming. In 2024 alone, Uganda produced 4,254 e-bikes and the number will double be4 end of this year.
Riders are reporting savings of over 50% less on daily operating costs and significantly reducing annual maintenance compared to petrol bikes.
One company, GOGO Electric, reported its fleet of over 2,000 e-bikes covered over 50 million kilometers in 2024. This growth is supported by battery-swapping infrastructure, making "refueling" faster and easier.
Have you considered getting one for business or personal use yet?
π° In Politics, the presidential campaign rages on. The battle, mainly between NRM and NUP, is today taking place in the South Western Region.
Mzee will be in Kabale & Rubanda. While Bobi-Wine will also be in Rukiga and Kabale.
Meanwhile ANT has seriously warned the Gov't to stop disorganising NUP's party activities.
π° Mu kibuga Kampala - KCCA has closed off Ssebaana Kizito Road and parts of Allen Road, to enable businessman Ham to conduct emergency works on the controversial Nakivubo Channel redevelopment.
The decision follows severe flooding in Kampala's Central Business District, which a KCCA technical inspection partly attributed to non-compliant construction by Ham.
The road closures aim to improve stormwater flow into the channel, clear obstructions like debris, and construct key drainage links to mitigate the recurring floods.
The alternative routes provided are: Burton, William and Wilson streets.
π° In International news: Following accusations of being biased, BBC Director-General Tim Davie and CEO of News Deborah Turness have resigned.
The departures are because of a TV documentary, which was criticised for allegedly misleadingly editing a speech by US President Donald Trump regarding the January 6th Capitol attack.
Davie stated he had to take ultimate responsibility for "some mistakes" amidst mounting scrutiny.
β½οΈ And In Sports - Man City humbled Liverpool yesterday, with a three nill hammering to go second on the table. Our prayers go out to Liverpool.
βοΈ Thats it.
May your day be inspired by resilience and kindness. Remember the power of your daily choices!
