In 1965, Joseph-Désiré Mobutu aka Mobutu Sese Seko became president of DRC through a military coup.
Mobutu, then Army Chief of Staff, seized control from both the President and the Prime Minister, claiming the move was necessary to halt the political chaos and save the nation from collapse.

This happened when he was being transported by the police and was broadcast live on TV.

The political environment in Kenya is bubbling with tension and uncertainty following a recent global investigation into foreign - run social media accounts that are influencing domestic politics.
You see - internet platforms now have new features that show where content is being made from. And it was discovered that many accounts that were previously thought to be in US are now being traced back to countries like Nigeria and India.
They were being used to interfere and manipulate local political discourse through social media.
📝 In Business: Uganda gets a $500 million steel plant.
President M7 and President Ruto were in Tororo yesterday to officiate at the groundbreaking ceremony of mega steel plant being constructed by the Kenyan - based DEVKI group.
The project will create 15,000 direct jobs and is intended to turn Uganda from a net importer of construction materials into a major exporter by the end of 2027.
📝 In International News: Trump finally met the Ugandan Mayor of New York.
The meeting between President Trump and New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani was unexpectedly cordial despite their stark ideological differences.
The two had been in a war of words- with one calling the other a 'fascist', a 'communist' and a 'despot'
But they agreed to focus on shared goals for New York, particularly combating the cost-of-living crisis, which includes housing and grocery prices.
Both leaders praised the potential for a productive working relationship
📝 And finally in Sports Arsenal extends lead with derby beating.
Arsenal delivered a stunning performance in the London derby, with midfielder Eberechi Eze scoring a hat-trick in a 4-1 demolition of Tottenham.
Arsenal has now gone six points clear. The result came after a weekend of shocks that saw title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City both lose their respective matches, giving Arsenal a significant boost heading into a crucial festive period.
