π€ Good Morning | Good Afternoon | And Good day
from wherever you are.
Every Tuesday we discuss 'How To' or 'Okikola Otya!?'
But first ...
π Today in πΊπ¬ UG History.
In 2020: Bobi Wine was arrested in Luuka District for violating the COVID -19 campaign guidelines. The arrest led to violent protests, demonstrations plus the death of 54 people in and around Kampala.
π And elsewhere in Africa.
It's Statistics Day today. Coordinated by The African Union & the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) - it aims to raise public awareness of the importance of statistics in life across the continent.
And in Uganda - UBOS has setup a week long series of events to celebrate statistics.
βοΈ Today's question will trouble the economists and statisticians. But we shall still ask it anyway...
'If the price of a coffee cup doubles and demand remains the same, what must have happened to the supply curve?
We await your answers - but please don't google.
In the news..
π° Former IGG and 2011 Presidential candidate - Madamu Betty Kamya - has been successfuly appointed as a Senior Presidential Advisor to President M7.
Congratulations are in order.
π Today - we look at 'HOW TO GET A TRADING LICENCE for your business in Uganda'
βΉοΈ A trading licence is a document that permits one to sell goods or services.
In Uganda, the process is managed by local govt authorities such as KCCA or a Municipal/Town Council.
Here are the steps.
βΆοΈ Step One. Register Your Business with URSB (Here is how to do it)
βΆοΈ Step Two. Get a Tax Indentification Number (TIN) from URA. (Here is how to get one)
βΆοΈ Step Three. Gather these Documents:
π Certificate of Registration (Business Name) or Certificate of Incorporation (Company).π Your TIN certificate.π Identification documents (National ID, Passport, etc.). π Original rent receipt or tenancy agreement for the business premises.
βΆοΈ Step Four. Application and Assessment.
Submit your application through the online e-service portals - see an example of KCCA's portal (here)
A Revenue Officer will assess your business based on its type and location grade to determine the annual fee.
βΆοΈ Step Five. Payment and Issuance:
Once assessed, a Payment Advice Form (PAF) is issued. Pay the required fee through designated banks or mobile platforms.
Present the payment receipt to the Division offices to receive and print your official Trading Licence Certificate.
Note: The licence is valid for twelve months and must be renewed annually before your new business year starts.
π° Meanwhile in International News ...
Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Madamu Sheikh Hasina was yesterday convicted of 'crimes against humanity' by the Bangladesh International Crimes Tribunal and sentenced to death in absentia.
Mbu she was responsible for the deadly crackdown on the 2024 student protests. Hasina, who remains in exile in India, called the verdict "biased and politically motivated."
Thats all we had today.
Have a good one
