In 1960 – The Mirabal Sisters (Patria, Minerva, and María Teresa) were assassinated in the Dominican Republic by dictator Rafael Trujillo.
They were on their way to visit their imprisoned husbands. The deaths shocked the nation and the world - making them symbols of resistance and women's rights.

In 2000: To honor the Mirabel Sisters, the United Nations observed the first international Day for the elimination of Violence against women. It is now celebrated yearly.

📝 🐂 Africa's Anti-Tick Breakthrough: NAROVAC is here.
NAROVAC is Africa's first anti-tick vaccine, developed by the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) in Uganda, with guidance from the National Drug Authority and the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology.
It targets three tick species called; Engoha, Entujjo & Embarabasa which are currently causing big loses for the cattle farmers.
Uganda, with a 45.6 million cattle population, uses 4 trillion shillings (approximately $ 1.4 billion) to treat tick-borne diseases annually.
But this vaccine, which registered 93.2% effectiveness, will cost only 3,600 shillings (1 US dollar) per doze... potentially saving billions.
Mass production starts next year after the production plant at the National Livestock Resources Research Institute in Wakiso, is completed.
📌 ⛏️ Today - we look at 'HOW TO get a mining license in Uganda'
You first apply to the Directorate of Geological Surveys and Mines (DGSM) which is under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) using the Mining Cadastre and Registry System (MCRS) portal.
Here are the steps:
▶️ Step One. Register on the MCRS portal, submitting ID and Tax Identification Number (TIN) details.
▶️ Step Two. Choose your license category (e.g., Prospecting, Exploration, Small/Large-Scale Mining).
▶️ Step Three. Submit an application form with required documentation, which generally includes:
📉 Proof of Financial Capacity
📉 Technical Competence (CVs, qualifications)
📉 Work Program and Budget
📉 Tax Clearance Certificate
📉 Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) approval (for mining stages).
▶️ Step Four. Pay the required statutory Application Fee.
Your application will be reviewed and processed by the DGSM.
