Welcome to Wednesday Vibes.

A day we dive into the latest science & tech news.

But first.

πŸ“† Today in 🌍 African History.

In 1977 – Then Egyptian President, Mr. Anwar Sadat, became the first Arab head of state to visit Israel and address its parliament called the Knesset.

Both Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin were jointly awarded the 1978 Nobel Peace Prize for the attempts to stop the Arab - Israeli conflict.

🌏 And elsewhere.

In 1969 – Brazilian footballer, Pele, scored his 1,000th professional goal against Vasco Da Gama at the Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

⁉️ Yesterday - we had a economic question.

And as you read this - we have received 159 responses and still counting... but only 113 were correct.

Here is our Answer:  Nothing. A price change causes a movement along the curve, not a shift of the curve.

πŸ“In the news.

The newly elected Mayor of Newyork, Zohran Mamdani, will be earning only 79 million Uganda shillings per month.  And some newyokers are saying this money is too little for a mayor.

Unlike some of predecessors like ; Micheal Bloomberg, Rudi Guiliani, Andrew Cuomo who are ultra rich and wealthy - Zohran only owns four acres of land in Jinja - Uganda.  And it was a gift from his uncle.

πŸ“ Today is for Technology and Science news...

We look at how Fintech is fueling Africa's financial growth.

But what is Fintech?

Fintech is short for Financial Technology, and it means using technology to make financial services easier, faster, and more accessible.

Think of the modern apps and websites that let you handle your money without needing to walk into a physical bank branch.

But - did you know that half of Africa is still unbanked?

Yes. You can easily walk from Cape Town to Marrakech, and you will only find a few bank's that are located paved environments. Some will only admit 'well dressed' clients in their premises.

Yet much of Africa's money and work is still 'informal'.  Our money is locked in our animal herds, in coffee plants, in fertile highlands, in our fishing boats and roasted maize cobs.

We need more informal financial systems: sytems that will speak our languages, systems that will not need my hand signature, systems that can work off grid, systems that shine with the sun and flow with the Nile ...among other things.

Innovative individuals & companies are taking advantage of the increasing smartphone ownership, declining internet costs, and a youthful urban population to digitize and take advantage of the estimated $ 10 - 16 billion fintech revenues of 2025.

The revenue comes from: digital lending, insurance technology, cross - border remittances and savings products.  These solutions, in addition to the tangible customer value, often offer 80% cheaper for transactions and offer higher interest on savings compared to traditional banks.

However, fintech faces these problems: 54 countries with differing financial regulations and weak national indentification systems that make cross - border scaling difficult.  In some areas; the internet and electricity are still inconsistent which has constrained growth.

Despite these challenges, the continent is positioned for mega growth.

With increasing investment and pan-African initiatives like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS), the stage is set for African fintech to deepen financial inclusion and stimulate economic prosperity across the continent.

Get ready to jump in too.

πŸ“ ⚽ Meanwhile in Sports

The 2025 CAF Awards are taking place today, in Rabat, Morocco.

Nigeria's Victor Osimhen is defending his Men's Player of the Year title against formidable competitors like Egypt's Mohamed Salah and Morocco's Achraf Hakimi.

The Women's Player of the Year sees Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade competing with Morocco's Ghizlaine Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy.

The ceremony celebrates the continent's top footballers, coaches, and teams for their exceptional performances

That will be all.

Have a great day.
