Politics & Governance:

  • NRM Primaries Violence: The ongoing NRM party primaries are marred by violence, with police arresting 16 suspects in connection with assaults, property destruction, and vandalism of election materials in districts like Mubende, Isingiro, and Rubanda. Burnt vehicles and motorcycles have been reported.

  • Museveni's Wealth Creation Push: President Museveni continues to emphasize wealth creation at the household level, stressing the transition from subsistence farming to a money economy. He recently flagged off the construction of a new road in Wakiso District, urging residents to focus on income-generating activities to supplement government jobs.

  • Opposition Shifts: Dr. Kizza Besigye has called for a non-violent struggle, stating that the newly launched People's Front for Freedom (PFF) party will focus on sensitizing masses on non-violent methods to demand accountability and service delivery. The PFF has also elected a 15-member council of eminent persons led by Besigye and is advocating for a federal arrangement.

  • Chinese Delegation Visit: Uganda is hosting a high-level Chinese delegation, with Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa commending China's partnership in infrastructure, health, and trade. Discussions are ongoing to balance trade, particularly regarding Uganda's coffee exports to China.

  • Civil Service "Rot" Exposed: A sweeping government audit has reportedly uncovered deep-seated issues within Uganda's civil service, including forged academic documents, illegal appointments, ghost pensioners, and inflated salary schemes. This is being described as a damning exposé of public service corruption.

Crime & Justice:

  • Entebbe Couple Murder: Police in Entebbe have arrested two suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of David and Deborah Florence Mutaaga, a couple who recently returned from Germany. Property wrangles are being cited as a possible motive.

  • Ex-Minister Nandutu to Begin Defence: Former Karamoja Affairs State Minister Agnes Nandutu, accused of diverting iron sheets meant for Karamoja, is scheduled to start defending herself in court today. Medical reports have cleared her as fit to stand trial after prolonged adjournments.

  • Visa Scam: Reports indicate that 85 Ugandans lost Shs500m in a visa scam, despite fulfilling all financial obligations, none of the victims traveled.

Economy & Development:

  • Top 100 Mid-Sized Companies Survey: The 2025 Top 100 Mid-Sized Companies Survey, in partnership with Equity Bank, KPMG, and Nation Media Group, is being unveiled today, highlighting high-performing mid-sized businesses driving Uganda's economic transformation.

  • Uganda-Kenya Trade Mission: A four-day Uganda-Kenya Trade and Investment Mission, aimed at boosting regional trade and investment, is concluding today in Kampala.

  • Youth Vocational Training: 100 youth have graduated from a vocational training program at Busitema University, contributing to skills development.
