📆 Today in History
In 2014 – The First Invictus Games were held in London. These are games where wounded armed forces personnel and veterans compete in athletic competitions. The next games are for 2027 in UK.
🌏And Elsewhere:
In 1960 – After a 5-day conference in Baghdad-Iraq, The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) was born. OPEC coordinates & unifies oil policies and ensures stability of oil markets for the 13 member countries.
⁉️ Let's talk some environment today. People are saying our environment is 'disappearing' ... and some experts are predicting doom.
But we want to ask You. What do you think is the most pressing environmental challenge in Uganda? Is it:
A. The decline of the fishing industry on Lake Victoria due to overfishing.
B. The rapid rate of deforestation and wetland encroachment.
C. The impact of oil exploration and production on protected areas. Or
D. The floods in Eastern Uganda.
Pick one answer and let us know. We will also share our response 2moro.
In today's stories.
📰 Mobile Money is becoming Mobile Money. Did you know that 50 million Ugandans have mobile money accounts ? Yet we are 45 million - according to UBOS. So who are these excess Ugandans with .....anyway.... ebyo tubileke.
But on a serious note - our economy is slowly becoming cashless.
I can quickly send 50k MOMO to my mother who stays in Nkondo- Luweero where there is no bank. You can pay your electricity or TV bill from your phone using Flexi- Pay while in church. You can recieve payments for stationery you supplied to Mukwano industries on a merchant code.
Mobile Money has become a lifeline - it has made things convinient. But it has it's problems also...like the 'Bafere' or fraudsters who confuse us before stealing our ka digital money.
Now that we know it is here to stay ... we have questions ...
1)How do we protect our digital money? 2)How do we ensure the rules and regulations are fair to the users? 3)How do we encourage the young people to innovate around this big opportunity? 4)How can we simplify the technology so that my mother can use easypay too?
Lets continue the discussion in our whatsap group (Here)
📰 Meanwhile, Phina Masanyalaze Mugerwa has announced her intention to stand for the Female Workers MP Seat in 2026.
She is the General Secretary of the Uganda Musicians Association and Vice Chairperson of the Uganda National Culture Centre Board and we wish her all the best.
Byebyo ...otherwise...
Thank You so so so much and God bless YOU.
